EMP 3250: CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT IN AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION (45 LH)

PURPOSE OF THE COURSE

Equip the learner with basic knowledge on principles of curriculum development and its application in education.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the course unit the learners should be able to:

  1. Describe aims and purposes of curriculum
  2. Describe the processes of curriculum development and reviews.

III.       Evaluate emerging concepts of curriculum development, implementation and evaluation

  1. Relate the instructional strategies and styles of learning to teaching

COURSE CONTENT

Curriculum development as a discipline: General theory – definitions of curriculum, aims and purpose of curriculum. Basic principles of curriculum construction; processes of curriculum construction, implementation and evaluation types of curriculum designs. Dynamics of curriculum changes and strategies: Relations of educational objectives to curricular plans, Instructional strategies and styles of learning and teaching.

Curriculum within school context. School curriculum: early childhood education curriculum, primary and secondary school curricula. Curriculum implementation, monitoring and evaluation, relationships between curriculum, education and national development. Issues in curriculum development in agricultural education.
