PURPOSE OF THE COURSE

To train learners on production conservation and utilization of pastures and fodder crops

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course the learner should be able to:

  1. Identify crops that can be used as pasture and fodder
  2. Describe the ecological requirement of pastures and fodder crops
  • Show knowledge on production of pastures and fodder crops
  1. Demonstrate ways of conserving and utilizing pastures and fodder crops
  2. Analyse the nutritive values of pastures and fodder crops
  3. Formulate and prepare food rations using pastures and fodder crops

COURSE CONTENT

Introduction to pastures and fodder crops: History, botany and distribution. Ecological requirements of pastures and fodder crops and their nutritive values. Agronomic requirements, crop protection, harvesting, conservation and utilization of individual key pastures and fodder crops. Organic pastures and fodder. Feeds formulation and nutrients analysis
